Souls In Hell Lift Their Faces To Heaven

June 2006 • 36x36"

"Souls in Hell Lift Their Faces to Heaven" is a seven-point repeating pattern in three distinct rings of varying line weight. An odd number of points was chosen for the challenge of making the many different segments align. It was conceived of at the 3 foot by 3 foot size, but smaller reproductions have also been made. The larger size meant that while the original drawings were done and matched up over a series of weeks, lines needed to be cleaned up and touched up over a series of months. There are two digital originals, printed at full size, one at my house, and one at the home of Mike and Karla Fox.

"Souls in Hell Lift Their Faces to Heaven" takes it's name from a line in Stewart O'Nan's novel "A Prayer for The Dying".
