Searchable Christmas Music Section

It’s been two years since the site’s Christmas Music section was updated, so it was time…

Enjoy the new iTunes-format listing of all of Jeff’s Christmas music. Still a bit buggy in places, but a huge improvement over what was there.

I’m truly impressed with your Christmas Music site! I’ve been collecting Christmas music since the early 80′s.
It began as a joke. Both my younger brother and I love Christmas and listening to all sorts of Christmas music. We’d call each other before Christmas with a bit of one-up-manship. He’d say he now has 20 Christmas LPs (them were the days) and I’d say I had 25.
Well here it is almost 30 years later and I have over 2000 (no duplicates) Christmas CDs and about 1200 Christmas LPs. Some of my favourite LPs I’ve duplicated on CD. (At least those I could get on CD.)
I am just now cataloguing my collection on CDPedia. My LPs are still in storage so it may be some time before I get to them.
I really enjoyed what I saw on your site, while I had a few of them, most of what you have I can only wish I had.
Are you a computer whiz or something? What an excellent way to showcase your great collection and your download page is a great idea.
I’ve digitized some of my LPs using a Rega planar 3 turntable and an analog to digital interface to Amadeus Pro on my iMac G4 (time to upgrade). What do you think of the USB connection LP to digital turntables that Costco sells?
    Really enjoy your site.

  • Thank Vic. I can’t take much credit for the searchable site part. It’s all thanks to a program I bought from Kavasoft originally called iTunes Library or something, since renamed KavaTunes, and it spits out the php straight from your iTunes Library file. I really wish I had the time to go in and clean up files and names, and add more cover art, but this is not a bad start.

As for the collection, my start sounds very similar to yours, and we probably own a lot of the same titles.
CDPedia eh? I’ll have to check it out. I let iTunes be my database, which I know is not ideal. But it’s so hard to maintain parallel collection lists…

I’m not really a computer whiz but I do know my way around. Okay, maybe a little :) I know enough to rely on a number of out-of-the-box solutions to make it look like I know what I’m doing. The download page is of course a big hit, and every year around this time I start to hear from people all over the world, especially ex-pat Canadians who loved a lot of these albums in their childhood. Very rewarding to be able to share…

I don’t use a USB connected turntable, but instead use an old (Hitachi) turntable which plugs into an iMic and digitize with Final Vinyl which comes with it. I also use Soundsoap to clean up the recording, and usually Peak LE to chop up the files. I know there are likely simpler software solutions but I’m comfortable enough with these, and I just don’t do it often enough to bother upgrading. I like iMic though, and if you have a record player I might recommend that before a dedicated USB turntable just from a cost point of view. Definitely see if it’s an option (if you have a turntable, and I’m betting you do, and if iMic is still available. Mine is old, and may even date back to my G4 days, so I don’t think an older Mac would be an issue…

Anyway, feel free to comment or PM if want to chat more or get more details. Sounds like we both have grappled with many of the same issues or are likely to at some point. Always happy to see if the load can be shared…

Thanks for getting in touch though, and glad you enjoy the site…!
    Jeff
