Catching up with a mural I painted for the school back in 1989.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

<\/p>\n

Of course, it’s a little disheartening to see the damage that the sun has done to it. Here are images side-by-side of how it looked in 1989 and 2009:<\/p>\n

Of course, sun damage was considered at the time but there isn’t anything you can do about it. But sun interaction was also an important part of the mural. It was conceived and designed to hang in a certain position, so the sun would hit it just so. At certain places in the mural, designs were painted with differing levels of gloss so that at certain times of day, when people were seated at the bench across from them, different things would be visible, most notably a baby which appeared around the time of the morning break in classes. It was a nice little touch that was never publicized but about which I heard with great amazement when people discovered it on their own. Luckily this part does not seem to have been damaged by age and sunlight.<\/p>\n

I'm very, very happy to see that it still hasn't been defaced.
