As you can imagine, I’ve seen a lot of adaptations of ‘A Christmas Carol’, and I do find myself rolling my eyes easily as I go into them, but I must say I quite enjoyed this take with Patrick Stewart playing Ebenezer Scrooge. Stewart lends a particular gravitas in places (as well as a quirky, corny humour in others) but his transition from miser to kind-hearted, for me, was quite interesting to watch. The movie suffers from some budget problems, but not nearly as much as you’d expect from a made-for-tv movie. But really, that doesn’t matter, whenever you’re watching A Christmas Carol, it all centers on the believability and strength of the lead character, and in Patrick Stewart, we have a very believable and worthwhile performance and film.
